  • Canned Green Beans: These are a lifesaver because you skip the whole blanching process. Just make sure to drain them well!
  • Butter: Unsalted is the way to go. It lets you control the saltiness of the dish.
  • Almonds: I’m a fan of sliced almonds because they add a nice texture and look pretty. But if you only have slivered almonds on hand, no worries, they’ll work just as well.
  • Onion: We won’t add a lot, but it adds a subtle sweetness and a nice depth to these easy almondine green beans.
  • Lemon Juice: Fresh, please! It makes a difference. Bottled lemon juice can pinch-hit in a real pinch, but freshly squeezed is the MVP here.
  • Salt & Freshly Ground Black Pepper: To taste. Start with ½ tsp of salt and ¼ tsp of pepper, then adjust according to your liking.

  2. Mix in the onions and sauté for a minute, or until they’re translucent and soft.
  3. Add the drained green beans to the skillet. Splash over the lemon juice and season with salt and pepper. Give it all a good mix.
  4. Cook everything together for about 5-10 minutes or until the green beans are warmed through and coated with all the flavors.

  • Try Shallots: Instead of using regular onion, try shallots for a slightly sweeter, more refined flavor. They’re a bit milder, but just as tasty!
  • Add a Touch of Garlic: Toss in a clove or two when you’re cooking the onions. It adds that signature garlic flavor that pretty much everyone loves.
  • Throw In Some Herbs: Freshen it up with some herbs like parsley or maybe a little thyme. Just chop them up and sprinkle them on at the end.
  • Cheese It Up: A little grated Parmesan on top never hurt anybody! It gives the beans a nice, cheesy edge that goes so well with the almonds and everything else. Grate it right on top of the beans.
  • Dairy-Free or Vegan Style: If you wanna make it dairy-free or vegan, use dairy-free butter or olive oil instead of regular butter to sauté the almonds. Your green beans with almonds will still taste amazing!

Tips for making the best green beans With Almonds

  1. Drain Those Beans: Before anything else, make sure you really get all the water out of those canned green beans. Excess water will make everything soggy, so give them a good shake in the colander.
  2. Keep the Crunch: Nobody likes mushy almond green beans! Aim for that sweet spot where they almonds are tender but still have a bit of a bite to them, kinda like al dente pasta.
  3. Go Low and Slow with the Almonds: When you’re toasting the almonds, take it slow. A gentle heat brings out that nutty aroma without burning them. And trust me, burnt almonds can ruin the whole dish!
  4. Season in Stages: Don’t dump all the salt and pepper in at once. Start with a little, taste as you go, and adjust.

How to store & reheat Green Beans Almondine

To store, pop the leftovers in an airtight container and slide them into the fridge. When you’re ready to bring them back to life, I suggest you reheat them on the stovetop to keep those green beans crunchy. Just a couple of minutes should do it. If you’re in a rush, the microwave works too, but you might lose some of that texture.

How long will Green Beans Almondine last in the fridge?

These easy almondine green beans will stay fresh and nutty in your fridge for about 2 to 3 days.

Can I freeze green beans with almonds?

Green beans are always best fresh, but if you made a large batch that your family won’t eat anytime soon, you can freeze them. First, cool them down completely to avoid freezer burn. Then, tuck them into freezer bags, squeeze out all the air, and stash them in the freezer. They’ll stay good for a couple of months.

What to serve with Green Beans Almondine

  • Rice: You’ve got to try these beans with some rice on the side! A simple butter rice is perfect with it.
